Pet Insurance

Whether it's Max, Buddy, Molly or Daisy, pets are masters at puppy-dog eyes when they smell bacon, ninja-level acrobats when playing ball, and massive balls of fur that haven’t quite figured out they’re not human.  But they’re also family.

Because of that, Sauk Valley Insurance makes a point to bring you the products you need to protect the four-legged friends in your house (even if said cat or dog still puts questionable “gifts” in your slippers overnight).

Why should I get pet insurance?

If you’ve ever had a pet become ill or get in an accident, you already know the answer. Vet bills add up fast. With pet insurance, you can make sure your animals get the best medical care while still protecting your bank account. Plus, it’s more affordable than you think!

Which animals does pet insurance cover?

Pet insurance insures cats and dogs ages 6 weeks and older. It’s always best to insure your pets early because pre-existing conditions will not be covered. Most policies also has a max age on when you can sign up for coverage. Typically dogs have until age 8 and cats until age 10 to be covered.

Does pet insurance work like my health insurance?

Yes and no. Most pet insurance plans have a deductible and co-insurance amount you must pay. However, while wellness visits for you are covered under your health insurance, they aren’t usually covered for your pets under pet insurance.

What does a typical pet insurance plan cover?

A typical pet insurance plan will cover the following up to the maximum annual benefit amount you set when you signed up for coverage.

  • Illnesses
  • Accidents
  • Hereditary Conditions
  • Congenital Conditions
  • Chronic Conditions
  • Cancer
  • Diagnostic Treatment
  • X-Rays, Blood Tests, Ultrasounds
  • Surgery
  • Hospitalization
  • Prescription Medications
  • Emergency Care
  • Specialty Care
  • Alternative Treatment

Will pet insurance really save me money?

Let’s look at an example. If you have a covered claim of $1,500, the first 10% coinsurance is applied and $150 is deducted from the covered amount. That’s leaves $1,350. Then we apply the deductible of $100, leaving $1,250. That makes your out-of-pocket cost only $250. Your pet insurance policy reimburses you for the rest!
